My Uncle Henry really loved the club and the Nomad was his pride and joy. If you are able to post something or otherwise include information about his passing to the club, we would really appreciate it. It would also be great of you could let me know his club number and how long he was a member. I know I didn’t get that right in his obituary sorry.

Also, the issue that his Nomad was featured in is from October 2015; Vol. 28, No. 9.

His license plate was “Cruisin” so I would bet people might know him by that.

Here is the link to the obituary and the funeral. He of course was given full military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery. I have also included a link to another magazine that featured his Nomad in 2017.

Please keep in touch and let me know if you need anything else. My contact information is below.

Condolences for the family for the passing of Tom Hodgins

HODGINS, Thomas “Tom” David

Peacefully with family by his side, at Victoria Hospital, on Monday, November 29, 2021, Tom Hodgins of London. Beloved husband of Janette Hodgins for 49 years. Loving father of Jeff (Tracey) Hodgins and Andrew Hodgins.

Fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Aileen Lyon, and Tom Grayson of London, and her children Craig (Shelly) and Janette; and by his brother-in-law Ewen Mackinnon (Rena) of Bishopton, Scotland and their children Sandra and Gordon.

He will also be missed by his faithful Westie, Brodie.

Tom worked for the City of London for many years until his retirement, primarily in the Building Division.

One of Tom’s great joys in life, after his family, was ‘playing with cars’. In his 20’s and 30’s it was Corvettes but in later years he focused on 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolet Nomads. He enjoyed many hours tinkering in the garage and attending car shows.

Another great joy was spending time as a ‘snowbird’ in Peoria, Arizona. More cars, lots of sunshine, golf and good friends.

Cremation has taken place. Words of remembrance will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Registration and proof of double vaccination are required to attend the visitation. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Tom are asked to consider a charity of your choice. For online condolences, donations and registration, please visit www.westviewfuneralchapel.com

Condolences for the passing of Caren “Sue” Carpenter

Caren “Sue” Carpenter… “Mama Sue”..Our “Queen Bee”…went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, age 70. Her life began March 29, 1951, a date she later shared with her birthday twin and grand-daughter Carley, here in Chattanooga when she was born to Herchel, Sr. & Mary Ellen Levi. They raised Sue in the family of 8 here in Soddy-Daisy where Sue went on to be a cheerleader for Soddy-Daisy High School, from which she later graduated from just before marrying the love of her life, Jerry Carpenter on June 2, 1969. Their marriage produced their two major reasons for life, their son Jerald (Angie) Carpenter and Tonya (Frankie) Goins. As the years went by Sue realized a great love and passion for children, not just her own. She began a home daycare where many other children over the years became a part of her heart and family. After many years of caring for the grandchildren of other people Sue experienced the amazing joy of welcoming her own grandchildren…Dani’el (Andy) Becker, Carley Carpenter, Makayla Goins, Jace Goins, and Jeremiah Carpenter. Recently, her heart grew even more with the addition of her first great granddaughter on August 13, Elliott Jeanne Becker!
Along with her immediate family, she was loved and treasured by her sisters, Donna Copeland & Sherrye Skiles and brother Eddie Levi. As you can see by social media, all of her nieces & nephews knew the precious jewel she was and loved her dearly. Another part of her life and heart in recent years has been her grand dog “Buddy”, he thought she hung the moon and really enjoyed those secret treats of cheese she passed along. After retiring, Sue was able to travel with her husband to numerous car shows and enjoyed spending time with Bob and Francine Wilenius and their other Nomad Club friends. A special family friend, Ron James, has been a helping hand with her other passion of flowers and working in her yard.
We know without a doubt that she was welcomed into Heaven by her mom & dad, sister Kim Fryar, as well as her Father and Mother In Law, Carl & Oneida Carpenter, whom she loved deeply on this earth.
The family would like to thank her nephew Eli Sneij, his team of doctors and wonderful nurses at Erlanger Heath Systems for the kind and loving care they provided to our “Queen Bee”.
If you would like to help us celebrate the life well lived of “Mama Sue” Carpenter please feel free to join us at Rechoboth Baptist Church on Thursday, August 26, 2021 with Rev. Tony McAFee and Rev. Alan Stewart officiating. We will begin welcoming friends and family at 4pm with a tribute service to begin at 6pm.
Sue and Jerry loved supporting and worshipping under the leadership of their nephew Tony McAfee at Covenant Life Church in Clinton, TN. If you feel so led, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the church of your choice in memory of Sue.Condolences and memories can be shared at www.williamsonandsons.com.
Arrangements are by Williamson and Sons Funeral Home, 8852 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379.

Condolences for the passing of Nelly Ann Cruz

Henry Martinez,  C.N.A. member # 300 Reported:

Nelly Ann Cruz passed away on Christmas Day 2020. She was my significant other for over 11 years. She was born November 21, 1965 in El Paso, Texas to Rudolfo (Rudy) & Maria Cruz. She is survived by her sister Sofia Howerton from New Mexcio, her companion of 11 years Henry Martinez, and her three kids Moses, Samson, and Paloma, all Chihuahuas. Her kids were her life.
Nelly was a head cheerleader at Marycrest High School here in Denver. She had an associate degree from Parks Business College and received a diploma as an Esthetican. She was a part owner of family owned Lupitas Mexican Restaurant for ten years, was a director for John Powers Modeling Agency for three years, worked for Medical Ops Management for two years where I met her delivering mail as I was her mailman. I was captivated by her look and her sexy voice. I chased after her, whiched seemed forever, till she went out with me. I picked her up in my 57′ Nomad to impress her, it worked! I think she was more impressed with my Nomad then me but that didn’t matter. She moved in with me about a year later and we had 11 great years together. She also worked at Saks Fifth Avenue and later started her own cosmetic line called “Nelli Cosmetics”. She even had a store front in the exclusive Cherry Creek area in Denver. Nelly  was diagnosed with colon cancer in January 2020 and was doing chemo treatments and radiation treatments for all of 2020. I held her in my arms till her last breath of life. She passed away on Christmas Day 2020. Nelly is going to be greatly missed by many, many people but none more than me. She was a very special lady. Hugs and kisses Nelly.

September 8, 1945 –
June 9, 2020

Deanne Elizabeth Ramsey lost her valiant battle with cancer on June 9, 2020, at home with loving family.

She began life on September 8, 1945, as the tow headed fifth child of Cora and Ben Benson.

She grew up on the family dairy farm where she sometimes had to pitch in with the many chores that farming required. She had the advantage of growing up amongst a multi-generational family with grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins on both sides.

She attended school in Burlington, where she met the love of her life, Richard Ramsey. They married and went off to Minnesota, where Dick attended a school for refrigeration maintenance.

In 1963, a daughter Marilyn was born and in 1972 Chad arrived to round out the family.

Returning from Minnesota, they both worked in the Seattle area until returning to Skagit Valley. Deanne took a job at Washington Federal Bank in Mount Vernon in 1969, and worked up the ranks to loan and arranger and then assistant manager before retiring in 1999.

For 47 years, the family had home on the shores of Lake Whatcom where they could enjoy their hobbies of boating and entertaining family and friends. Everyone loved to go there on a hot summer day to feast and swim and water ski.

Deanne was a warm and affectionate person with an infectious laugh.

If you were not her friend, it was because she did not know you yet.

Deanne is survived by her husband, Richard Ramsey; Son, Chad (LaDawn) Ramsey; her two most beloved grandsons, Corbin and Dustin Ramsey; son-in-law Michael Houser; brother-in-law, Gary (Penny) Ramsey who helped these last few months; sister, Laura Matthews; brother, Bill Benson; and so many nieces, nephews and cousins who will all miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Arnold and Dick Benson, and her daughter, Marilyn.

Please send your condolences and share memories of Deanne to her family online at
www.kernfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are through Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.

Obituary for Janice “Jan” Duncan

Janice “Jan” Rae Duncan, 71, of Cairo passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 due to injuries as a result of an automobile accident.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church of Grand Island. A gathering of friends and family will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary at 6:00, also at the Church. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Jan was born March 3, 1949, in Kearney, the daughter of Albert and Phyllis (Coulter) Hervert. She grew up on the family farm near Ravenna, graduating from Ravenna High School, Class of 1967. She then graduated from Grand Island School of Business. On February 15, 1969, following a huge blizzard that made many roads impassable, she was united in marriage to Ronald “Ron” L. Duncan. They made their home in Grand Island before moving to their acreage between Grand Island and Cairo, where they lived for 47 years.
Following graduation, she worked at Gamble Robinson for a few years before starting her own business “Duncan’s Upholstery”. In addition to running her own business, she was also a part-time instructor at Central Community College teaching upholstery for well over ten years. Jan was employed part-time as a crew leader for the United States Census. She worked the 1990, 2000, 2010, and current Census… and was making plans for 2030.
Vintage and classic cars were a major part of Jan’s life. She loved NHRA drag racing and supported Ron during his racing career when he ran Malfunction and Hellfire. She was a member of the National Nomad Club and helped establish the current Chevrolet Nomad Association, for a combined total of over 50 years affiliation with both clubs. She was a member of Vintage and Classic Wheels, as well as the Island Area Cruisers. Jan was also a 30+ year member of the Hall County Extension Club. While raising her children, Jan supported the Boys Scouts of America and 4-H. The connections she made through these affiliations afforded countless lifelong friendships.
Jan enjoyed antiquing and garage sales, always looking for “a good deal’. Her extensive collections include M&M’s, Root Beer Mugs, Campbells Soup, California Raisins, Kool-Aid, Coca-Cola, Planters Peanuts, and Hot Wheels. Jan loved playing radio call-in contests and was well known by the local DJs for her knack of winning and her famous party mix at Christmastime. But, above all Jan’s beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, never missing a school play, speech debate, or game.
Those who will cherish Jan’s memory include her husband, Ron; and her children, Shawn (Megan) Duncan of Fort Lupton, CO and Lisa (Dustin) Duncan Butler of Alda, NE; five grandchildren, Kristian (Zach) Morgan, Dusty Rose Butler, Madison Duncan, Brock Butler, and Caden Butler; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Ariah Duncan.
She is also survived by brothers, Mike Hervert of Rockville, NE and Don (Pamela) Hervert of Ravenna; sister, Jean (Don) Blaschko of Gibbon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carol McCarthy and brothers, Jerry Hervert and Brent Hervert.
Memorials are suggested to the family to provide scholarships for students in the Automotive Program at CCC Hastings Campus.
The family is requesting that those attending wear blue jeans and car attire to the services.

Condolences for Gary Black and the rest of the Black family:

I’m sure Gary Black has plenty to do with his daughter’s passing Monday morning. Funeral is tomorrow. Debbie has been to several Nomad conventions, I think the first one was San Antonio in 2007. We will miss her. Gary’s member# is 1303, according to my 2018-19 member directory. Details:

Today we lost a dear friend, mother, daughter, and sister – Debbie Black.

Please send prayers for her soul’s ascension into the Kingdom of immortality, His exalted rose garden – the world of mysteries. Also include prayers for Debbie’s family and friends as they are now transitioning into only having a spiritual relationship with the loss of their dear loved one.

OThou Kind Lord! This dearly cherished maidservant was attracted to Thee, and through reflection and discernment longed to attain Thy presence and enter Thy realms. With tearful eyes she fixed her gaze on the Kingdom of Mysteries. Many a night she spent in deep communion with Thee, and many a day she lived in intimate remembrance of Thee. At every morn she was mindful of Thee, and at every eve she centered her thoughts upon Thee. Like unto a singing nightingale she chanted Thy sacred verses, and like unto a mirror she sought to reflect Thy light.

O Thou Forgiver of sins! Open Thou the way for this awakened soul to enter Thy Kingdom, and enable this bird, trained by Thy hand, to soar in the eternal rose garden. She is afire with longing to draw nigh unto Thee; enable her to attain Thy presence. She is distraught and distressed in separation from Thee; cause her to be admitted into Thy Heavenly Mansion.

O Lord! We are sinners, but Thou art the Forgiver. We are submerged in the ocean of shortcomings, but Thou art the Pardoner, the Kind. Forgive our sins and bless us with Thine abundant grace. Grant us the privilege of beholding Thy Countenance, and give us the chalice of joy and bliss. We are captives of our own transgressions, and Thou art the King of bountiful favors. We are drowned in a sea of iniquities, and Thou art the Lord of infinite mercy. Thou art the Giver, the Glorious, the Eternal, the Bounteous; and Thou art the All-Gracious, the All-Merciful, the Omnipotent, He Who is the Bestower of gifts and the Forgiver of sins. Verily, Thou art He to Whom we turn for the remission of our failings, He Who is the Lord of lords.

Bob Miller

Brightwood, Oregon

C.N.A. Member #24

Posted on Facebook by his family: I am sure some people have heard by now, but we wanted to let everyone know that our dad, Bob Miller, passed away peacefully in his sleep late Tuesday evening. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed so much by all of us. We will be setting up a get together to celebrate his life in the next couple of months once Marlene is back up on her feet.

Bob Miller, member number 24, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, in his sleep.  Marlene fell on December 22 and broke her hip.  For a while, she was in the same retirement home as Bob.  Marlene is now back in her home.

Marlene is still recovering from her hip surgery, so no date for a memorial service for Bob has been set.

I know Marlene will appreciate cards.  A valid phone number for Marlene is 513-919-9038.

Please cross off the other phone number (503-622-6813) listed in the Chevrolet Nomad Association directory.

Condolences for the family of:

I just received word from Greg that Monty Hollertz has passed away. His family owned Chevyland off the interstate at Elm Creek. For you long time members this brings back memories of several trips to Chevyland. We camped out and played car games and watched movies at night with the building for a screen. Many years ago his wife and her sister were killed by his wifes brother in law at chevyland. After that it was mostly closed but you could still see cars in the windows from the interstate. Monty’s funeral will beTuesday at the Methodist Church in Holdrige.

“Henry “Hank” S. Eisler, Jr.”

August 12, 1943 – February 19, 2018

Leavenworth, WA

Henry was born in Wenatchee, WA, and raised in Elmer City, WA. He graduated from Coulee Dam High School in 1961. He continued his education at Spokane Community College, where he got a degree in Auto Mechanics. From then on, he did brake jobs and such to make some extra money, and eventually completed his Apprenticeship with the Iron Workers Union. Through his work with the Union, he worked many jobs in Washington State and a couple outside of the state.

In 1966, he married Elizabeth Bagwell, and they made their home in East Wenatchee, WA. In 1969, Hank purchased a 1955 Nomad. The search for parts for that car evolved into the family owned business of “Mr. Nomad”. He operated this business and continued working as an Iron Worker also. After his divorce in 1989, he moved to Wenatchee. In 1991, he met Icyle Zediker through square dancing. They were married in 1993, and Henry moved to Leavenworth with Icyle. After their marriage, they wanted to travel together, so Henry sold Mr. Nomad and retired from the Union. They had many wonderful adventures together and continued with their love of square dancing. Sadly, Icyle was taken from him when she passed in 2005. Henry has remained living in Leavenworth until his passing. He loved being with his many friends in the Hot Rod and Square Dancing community.

He is survived by his two children: Jennifer Bechtel of Moses Lake, WA, and Stephen Eisler of Wenatchee, WA; two sisters: Zelma Springen of Moses Lake, WA, and Shirley Aarestad of Boise, ID; two grandchildren: Tanner and Roark Bechtel, both of Moses Lake, WA; and his “Angel”, Barbara Jones of Wenatchee, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Icyle; his father (1971); and his mother (1981).

A Memorial Celebration is being planned for late spring when the Hot Rods can safely come play a part in his memory. Please watch for updates on his tribute at www.HeritageMemorialChapel.com. Arrangements are in care of the Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee, WA.

Sad News about Kathy Miller

(Updated Information)

RACINE – Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Susan Leigh Miller, age 68, passed away on January 23, 2018, at her home in rural Caledonia, WI. She was being treated with chemo for cancer. Kathy was born on October 6, 1949, in Reedsburg, WI to Annabelle (nee: Jaquish) and Morris Leigh, who farmed in the Lime Ridge, WI area. Kathy loved horses from the time she was a very small girl, and soon had one of her own. Kathy attended White School, a rural one-room elementary less than a mile from her home, and graduated from Weston High School, Cazenovia, WI in 1967. She worked at the Reedsburg Food canning factory and then for Hankscraft Manufacturing before attending UW-Stout, in Menomonie, WI for a short time. She met her husband-to-be, Luke Miller, at a church youth function in 1964. Luke and Kathy were married on February 14, 1970 in Lime Ridge, WI. Daughter Jennifer was born in 1970 and son Luke in 1973. When she and Luke were courting, she would sit on his lap while he worked on a carburetor. Luke got his first (Chevrolet) Nomad in 1968. Kathy joined him in restoring this car and several others over the years. They would go on to participate in annual Nomad conventions all over the country without missing one for 47 years! Kathy worked for 26 years at Hancock Fabrics, in Milwaukee, primarily as an executive secretary, retiring in 2006. This was the perfect business for her since she loved working with fabrics and often made sample quilting projects for display in the store as well as at home and as gifts for relatives. Kathy was a patient, loving, gracious wife, mother, and grandmother, proud of her housekeeping skills and famous for her baked goods. A favorite activity was making cookies with her grandchildren. She and Luke froze and canned food from their garden. They were pillars of the Faith Bridge United Methodist Church, in Franksville, WI. Kathy enjoyed regularly attending services and especially baking for the annual “cookie walk.” Kathy was supportive of her family. For almost 25 years, they traveled to Arizona several times a year to be with their daughter’s family, as well as babysitting their youngest granddaughter in the Milwaukee area twice a week since her birth. Her interest in family led her to working on the genealogy of the Leigh and Jaquish ancestors, which she has traced back to the early 1600’s. She is survived by her husband Luke Miller, daughter Jennifer (Steven) Burks, son Luke (Amber) Miller, and grandchildren Cade and Avery Burks and Hannah Miller and brother, Dan (David Arms) Leigh. Her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services for Kathy Miller will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Faith Bridge United Methodist church, 10402 Northwestern Avenue, Franksville, WI with Rev. John Flemming officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening “”TONIGHT”” from 5:00-7:00 p.m., January 26, and at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, prior to the service. Following services, Kathy will be laid to rest at Caledonia Memorial Park. Online condolences can be expressed at www.sturinofuneralhome.com
